Lucknow, Jun 19 (UNI): Uttar Pradesh Congress leaders and workers celebrated the 49th birthday of the party President Rahul Gandhi in a simple manner, planting saplings and distributing ladoos.

"No cake was cut and the celebrations were low key in view of the death of over 100 children due to acute encephalitis syndrome (AES) in Bihar,” revealed spokesman of the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee, Virendra Singh.

The leaders were also not in upbeat mood due to recent drubbing of the party in Parliamentary elections. Singh, claimed that in the presence of party MLA, Aradhana Mishra "Mona" along with former minister Naseemudeen Siddiqui, Vinod Mishra, RP Singh, Siddarth Priya Srivastava, Virendra Madan, Pramod Singh, Amarnath Agarwal, they planted saplings in the UPCC campus, distributed sweets and prayed for long life of the party president.

Singh further said that the leaders of the Sewa Dal had also planted 49 saplings in various parks of the city to celebrate Rahul’s birthday.

He claimed that the Youth Congress leaders also visited hospitals and distributed fruits among the patients.

Meanwhile sources also confirmed that Rahul Gandhi is likely to make a visit to his Amethi Parliamentary constituency, which he lost to Smriti Irani in this election.

Rahul is likely to visit on coming Saturday, the day on which Smriti would also reach Amethi to thank the voters on her victory.

Rahul is likely to meet the workers and leaders and might also thank those who supported him though he lost the polls.
