Local train service in West Bengal to be resumed from Nov 11: Railway Minister Piyush Goyal

Kolkata/IBNS: Shortly after the senior officials of the Indian Railways and West Bengal government held their third meeting at Nabanna on the resumption of local train services, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal on Thursday evening announced that suburban train services in the state will be resumed from Nov 11 (Wednesday).

"Railways will resume suburban services in West Bengal from 11th November. With adequate safety measures in place, this will enhance passenger convenience and facilitate smooth travel for the people," Goyal tweeted.

Sources in the Indian Railways said that initially 181 pairs of local trains will be run daily in Eastern and South-Eastern divisions while the number of galloping trains will be reduced.

"From Wednesday 181 pairs of local trains will be run everyday— 114 pairs in Sealdah division, 50 pairs in Howrah division and 17 pairs in Kharagpur division," a senior Railway official said.

"The modified timetable, limit of passengers and detailed SOP will be declared by Monday (Nov 9)," he added.

The Railway has kept the local suburban train services under suspension in West Bengal since the nationwide Covid-19 lockdown had come into force on March 25, and it has been running only few pairs of railway-staff special trains.
