LeT Divisional Commander killed in Kashmir gunbattle

Srinagar, June 1 (IBNS): Security forces killed Abu Ukasha Afghani, the Divisional Commander of banned Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) , in north Kashmir's Kupwara district on Sunday.
A  defense official said that acting on specific information about the presence of some militants at  Sudal area of Magam in Handwara, the Army's 47 RR, 21 RR, 6 RR along with Special Operations Group (SOG) cordoned off the area.

"Acting on specific information Handwara police along with 47 RR, 21 RR, and 6 RR launched a cordon and search operation in village Sudal area of Magam in Handwara," police spokesman said adding that during the gunbattle, a LeT militant was killed.
 
The spokesman said the slain militant was later identified as Abu Ukasha Afghani- the divisional commander of the outfit.

As such the joint team of forces intensified the searches, the militants hiding in the area opened fire on them. The fire was retaliated ensuing an enraging gunfight between forces and hiding militants.

The search operation was going on till last reports came in, the spokesman said.
