Laser light on Rahul Gandhi, Congress says breach of security

| @indiablooms | Apr 11, 2019, at 06:46 pm

New Delhi, Apr 11 (IBNS): After a laser light was seen on the head of Congress chief Rahul Gandhi, the grand old party has alleged that the opposition leader's security was breached and also urged the Centre to "probe and neutralise the threat" if any, media reports said.

The Congress has written to the Union Home Ministry that Rahul's life and security was breached as he went to file his nomination from Uttar Pradesh's Amethi for the Lok Sabha polls on Thursday.

The Congress has accused the Uttar Pradesh administration of "alarming lapse".

However, the Home Ministry, after consulting the director of Special Protection Group (SPG), said the light came from a mobile phone.

Rahul, whose father and grandmother, former Prime Ministers Rajiv Gandhi and Indira Gandhi, were assassinated, is used to get SPG.

The light was pointed at Rahul on seven occasions, reports said.

In the letter to the Home Ministry, the Congress said various people including security personnel came to a conclusion that the light could have come from a sniper gun.

Though the Home Ministry denied receiving any letter, it ruled out any security breach.
