Kerala MLA Rahul Mankoottil quits Congress post after Malayalam actress levels harassment allegation

Thiruvananthapuram/IBNS: Malayalam actress Rini George has accused a young politician of harassing her with objectionable messages for the last three years, media reports said.

Without taking his name, Rini has accused the politician of inviting her to five-star hotels.

She alleged the concerned party did not take any action against its leader despite several complaints.

The actress also alleged the politician kept on getting important posts in the party despite warnings.

Though Rini did not disclose neither the accused's identity nor the party's name, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s Kerala unit directed the actress' allegations against Congress MLA Rahul Mankoottil.

The saffron party also staged a protest against the Congress lawmaker outside his office in Palakkad district.

Following the protest, Rahul, though his name was not taken, stepped down as the youth Congress president on Friday.

"I challenge the person who complained against me to prove the case in the court of law. No concrete complaint has been filed against me from any quarter," the lawmaker said as quoted by NDTV.

The broadcaster also quoted Rini who levelled the allegations in an online interview. She said, "I came in contact with the politician through social media. His inappropriate behaviour began three years ago, when I first received objectionable messages from him."
