Thiruvananthapuram/ÚNI: Kerala Finance Minister KN Balagopal had a miraculous escape from a car accident when one of the rear wheels of his Innova car got detached, sources said on Sunday.

The wheel on the left rear-end of the vehicle carrying the Minister got detached from it on Kuravamkonam Road when the Minister was going to attend a meeting on Friday night.

The car came to a screeching halt after the driver was alerted by others.

The Minister and officials in the car were badly shaken but unharmed in the incident. Later, the Minister proceeded in another car.

Soon after the accident, the Finance Department sent a note to the Tourism Department, responsible for allocating cars to the ministers, stating that the incident happened due to the bad condition of the car which almost covered more than 2 lakh kilometres.

The issue came to light only when the Finance Department complained about the matter to the Tourism Department, sources added.
