Kashmiris are caged like animals: Mehbooba Mufti's daughter writes to Amit Shah

Srinagar, Aug 16 (IBNS): In a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti's daughter Iltija said all Kashmiris are caged like animals and denied basic human rights due to the clampdown in the valley.

Iltija and her mother Mehbooba have been kept under detention.

Iltija wrote on Independence Day, "The valley is gripped with fear because all forms of communication have been snapped...Today while the rest of the country celebrates India's Independence Day, Kashmiris have been caged like animals and deprived of basic human rights."

Mehbooba's daughter also said her interviews to media have been cited as the reasons for her detention though she belongs to no political party. "..the security personnel have cited my interviews to various media portals and newspapers as the reason for my detention. In fact, I've been threatened with dire consequences if I speak up again."

"Is it a crime to articulate the pain, torment and indignity we've been subjected to? Does it warrant a detention to describe our plight?" Iltija asked Shah in her letter.

In the midnight before the abrogation of Article 370, several Kashmiri leaders including former Chief Ministers Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba were kept under house arrest. Later, they were detained.

The Centre more than a week ago withdrew the special status which Jammu and Kashmir was used to enjoy since Independence.
