Kashmir: Police seize one-kg heroin in Poonch's Mendhar near LoC

Jammu/UNI: Police seized one-kg heroin worth crores along the Line of Control (LoC) in Mendhar area of Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir.

SSP Poonch Ramesh Angral here on Thursday said that during the intervening night of October 14-15, a police party headed by DySP Zaheer Abbas Jafri, SDPO Mendhar assisted by Station House Officer, Police Station, Mendhar Manzoor Kohli established a naka at Mankote.

During checking, the SSP said that an unknown suspected person was intercepted who tried to escape but the police party apprehended him.

"During the search, police seized one-kg narcotic (heroin), from his possession," he said adding that the accused has been arrested.

In this regard a case under relevant sections of law has been registered and further investigation is going on.

The delivery of the consignment from across the border cannot be ruled out and police are investigating all the linkages, said the SSP.

People, however, have appreciated the role of police in the recovery of the consignment and curbing the menace which spoils the youth.
