Srinagar/UNI: An unidentified militant and a civilian were killed, while an ultra surrendered on Friday during an encounter, which ensued after security forces launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in the south Kashmir district of Pulwama on Thursday evening, official sources said.

They said at the first light on Friday morning security forces resumed the operation against militants trapped in Meeg Lalpora Pampore in Pulwama.

However, when the security forces were again moving towards the area where militants were hiding, they came under heavy fire.

The security forces returned the fire killing an unidentified militant.

"Hours later, another local militant surrendered after being persuaded by his family members, who were brought to the encounter site by security forces," they said, adding the operation was going on when the reports last came in.

Giving details, they said that following specific information about the presence of militants, troops of the Rashtriya Rifles (RR), CRPF and Special Operation Group (SOG) of the Jammu and Kashmir police launched a joint search operation at Meeg, Pampore last evening.

However, when the security forces were moving towards a particular area in the village, militants opened fire upon them. The firing was returned leading to an encounter in which two civilians were injured.

“Both the injured have been hospitalized,” they said, adding one of them identified as Abid Nabi a 22-year-old local resident succumbed in the hospital early this morning.
