Baramulla, June 21 (UNI): Security forces on Friday launched Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in several villages in the frontier district of Kupwara, official sources said.

They said on a tip-off about the presence of militants, troops of Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir, Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and CRPF launched a joint search operation in several villages in Langate, Handwara, in the north Kashmir district of Kupwara early Friday morning.

All exit points were sealed and house to house searches launched by the security forces in these villages, including Hanjishat and Yaroo Langate in Handwara. So far no contact has been established with the militants, they added.

The operation was still going on when the reports last came in, they said, adding additional security forces and state police personnel were deployed in adjoining areas to prevent any demonstration.
