Karnataka: Elephants create panic on Bangalore-Chennai highway

Chittoor/UNI: A herd of elephants created panic on Bangalore – Chennai highway on Monday evening.

About eight elephants gathered by the side of the highway waiting to enter into nearby fields of Jagamarla village of Palamaner rural Mandal, bringing the traffic on both sides of the highway to a standstill for more than one hour.

People travelling on the arterial road were panic-striken on seeing the tuskers.

Finally, the elephants made way for the traffic after people blew horns of their vehicles and the traffic movement resumed. However, the Jagamarla villagers are worried about their safety as there is possibility that the elephants may stray into their habitat.

On receiving the information, the officials of the forest department reached the place to drive away the herd into the nearby forest.
