Karkare aftermath: BJP candidate Pragya gets notice

| @indiablooms | Apr 20, 2019, at 08:16 pm

Bhopal, Apr 20 (UNI) The District Returning Officer issued a notice on Saturday to the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Bhopal parliamentary constituency candidate Pragya Singh Thakur vis-a-vis her statement regarding Ashoka Chakra-recipient 1982-batch Indian Police Service officer and Anti-Terrorism Squad chief Hemant Karkare who attained martyrdom after being shot thrice in the chest while combating perpetrators of the 2008 Mumbai attacks.

The reply is to be submitted within a period not exceeding a day, official sources said.

Thakur’s remarks attracted all-round criticism.

“A team monitors speeches by leaders and candidates. On the basis of information provided by it, the Collector was directed to submit a report on Ms Thakur’s lecture,” Madhya Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer VL Kantha Rao said.

A show-cause notice was also served on BJP District President Vikas Virani for violating the Model Code of Conduct.
