Kargil war veteran Md. Sanaullah released from Goalpara detention camp

Guwahati, June 8 (IBNS): Kargil war veteran Md. Sanaullah, who was arrested by the Assam police’s Border wing as a foreigner, has been released from the Goalpara detention camp on Saturday. 

The Gauhati High Court on Friday granted bail to Md. Sanaullah.

52-year-old Md. Sanaullah, who retired who retired from the Corps of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers (EME) of Indian Army as an honorary Lieutenant on May 31, 2017 was arrested by the Assam police’s Border wing after the Foreigners’ Tribunal No 2 at Boko in Kamrup district had declared him as a foreigner on May 23 last and sent the Kargil war veteran to a detention camp in Goalpara.

After release from the detention camp, family members of Md. Sanaullah and his well wishers welcomed him.

The court has directed the Kargil war veteran not to move out of the territorial limits of Kamrup district, without prior approval of Kamrup district Superintendent of Police.

Following the court directive the authorities had conducted the biometrics of Md. Sanaullah at the office of the Superintendent of Police, Kamrup district before releasing him on interim bail.

A division bench of the Gauhati High Court has also issued notice to the Union government, Defence ministry, state government, NRC authority, Investigating Officer Chandramal Das and other respondents while hearing a writ petition filed by the family members of the ex-army.
