Jyotiraditya Scindia betrayed people's trust and ideology: Ashok Gehlot

Jaipur/IBNS: Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Tuesday said former Union Minister and Lok Sabha MP Jyotiraditya Scindia has betrayed the trust of people and also the ideology by leaving the Congress.

Slamming Scindia, Gehlot tweeted, "Joining hands with BJP in a time of national crisis speaks volumes about a leaders self-indulgent political ambitions. Especially when the BJP ruining the economy, democratic institutions, social fabric and as well the Judiciary."

"Mr Scindia has betrayed the trust of the people as well as the ideology. Such people proves they can’t thrive without power. Sooner they leave the better."

After meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday morning, Scindia sent his resignation letter to Congress interim chief Sonia Gandhi saying he was unable to work for people staying within the country's oldest party.

In the resignation letter, Scindia wrote, "Having been a primary member of the Congress party for last 18 years, it is now time for me to move on. I am tendering my resignation from the primary membership of the Indian National Congress and as you well know, this is a path that has been drawing itself out over the last year."

"While my aim and purpose remain the same as it has always been from the very beginning, to serve the people of my state and country, I believe I am unable to do this anymore within this party.

To reflect and realise the aspirations of my people and my workers I believe it is best that I now look ahead at a fresh start."

Meanwhile, Scindia is likely to join the BJP on Tuesday evening.

Madhya Pradesh fell into a political crisis after more than 17 Congress MLAs including six ministers, all loyals to former Guna MP Scindia, flew out to Bengaluru, Karnataka on Monday.

20 Madhya Pradesh MLAs of Congress, who are loyal to Scindia, have submitted their resignations to Governor Lalji Tandor putting the Kamal Nath government in a spot of bother.

With the resignations, the Congress is presently running a minority government while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has reached the halfway mark.

The current strength of 230-member Madhya Pradesh assembly is 228.

After the resignations of 19 MLAs, the Congress and its allies now have 102 while the BJP has 107 seats. The halfway mark in the assembly is now 105.
