New Delhi, Sept 28 (IBNS): Justice Handyala Lakshminarayanaswamy Dattu was sworn in as the 42nd Chief Justice of India (CJI) on Sunday after his predecessor Justice RM Lodha announced his retirement on Friday.
He will serve as the CJI of the Supreme Court for 14 months.

The swearing in ceremony was conducted at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Sunday. He made and subscribed to the oath of office before the President.

On Friday, Lodha announced his retirement.

He also opined that Supreme Court and High Court judges should not accept constitutional posts.

"In my view, no judges should accept any constitutional posts immediately after retirement. There should be a cooling off period of two years before any post-retirement appointment is accepted by the judge," Lodha said.
