J&K: BJP, PDP close to govt formation
"A pact between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the People's Democratic Party (PDP) for the formation of a government in Jammu and Kashmir may be announced by Monday," Hindustan Times reported.
"The parties have reached a consensus on a Common Minimum Programme (CMP) and the decision is likely to be made public soon. Sources added the two parties agreed to arriving at a common ground over issues like Armed Forces Special Powers Act (Afspa) and Article 370," the newspaper reported quoting sources.
Former J&K CM and National Conference (NC) president Omar Abdullah slammed the PDP and tweeted: "Only an idiot would have concluded that Mufti Syed's drama over the last few days meant PDP-BJP were actually having difficulty joining up."
He said: "The PDP-BJP tie up was a done deal ages ago, all this was just Mufti Syed's grandstanding as a tough guy to undo the damage in the valley."
The formation of a government in the north Indian state got delayed after Assembly polls only left with a hung assembly.
The PDP won 28 seats while the BJP clinched 25.
Omar's NC and Congress managed to win 15 and 12 seats respectively.
