Bengaluru, Jan 23 (IBNS) Former Karnataka minister G Janardhan Reddy was on Friday released from jail after being there for more than three years on the charges of illegal mining.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday had granted bail to Reddy,  an accused in the illegal mining case involving his Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC). He was arrested in 2011.

The city  Police Commissioner had imposed prohibitory orders around half a  km radius of Parappana Agrahara Central Prison in Bengaluru from Thursday afternoon to Friday mid-night to preempt any trouble in the wake of Reddy's release.

Janardhan Reddy and his brother Karunakara were influential ministers in the BJP government in Karnataka. They were immensely powerful in Bellary district.
