Jammu CBI arrests top officer of Civil Aviation Security for demanding, accepting bribe

Jammu/UNI: The sleuths of Central Bureau of Investigation, Jammu have arrested a top ranked officer of Bureau of Civil Aviation Security for demanding and accepting bribe, a CBI official here said on Friday.

The official told UNI that the team has arrested one Umesh Kumar Verma, an Assistant Director, Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) J&K, for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from the complainant.

"A case was registered on a complaint against an Assistant Director, BCAS under section 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018) on the allegations of demanding a bribe of Rs 10,000 for granting entry passes to the employees of the complainant who were engaged in providing manpower services at the Jammu Airport," said the official.

He said that the accused was allegedly pressurising and harassing the complainant to pay the bribe and when the complainant refused to give in, his application was rejected.

CBI laid a trap and caught the accused red-handed on Thursday night while accepting a bribe of Rs 5000/- from the complainant.

"Searches are being conducted at the residential and official premises of the accused in Srinagar (J&K) and Shahjahanpur (U.P.)," he added and said that the accused, who was in-charge of Jammu and Srinagar Airports, is being produced on Friday before the Court of Special Judge on for CBI Cases, Jammu.
