Srinagar: Indian security forces have gunned down four terrorists of Jaish-e-Mohammad terror group during a gunfight near Nagrota town in the Jammu district of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday.

A policeman was reportedly killed during the incident.

Officer of the Special Operations Group--Kuldeep Raj, 32, of Akhnoor in Jammu district was injured in the exchange of fire. He was taken to Government Medical College and Hospital in Jammu with injuries on the neck. His condition has been stated to be stable, reports Hindustan Times.

“In the exchange of fire four terrorists were eliminated. Terrorists lobbed grenades on security forces during checking. The truck also caught fire and a few grenades also exploded inside it during the exchanges,” Mukesh Singh, inspector general of police of Jammu zone, told the Indian newspaper.

Meanwhile, Indian PM Narendra Modi appreciated the security forces for their actions.

" Neutralising of 4 terrorists belonging to Pakistan-based terrorist organisation Jaish-e-Mohammed and the presence of large cache of weapons and explosives with them indicates that their efforts to wreak major havoc and destruction have once again been thwarted," Modi tweeted.

"Our security forces have once again displayed utmost bravery and professionalism. Thanks to their alertness, they have defeated a nefarious plot to target grassroots level democratic exercises in Jammu and Kashmir," he said.
