| @indiablooms | Jun 11, 2019, at 09:24 am

Srinagar, June 11 (IBNS): At least two terrorists were killed during a gunfight with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian area, officials said.

" #Shopian #encounter update: Two #terrorists killed. #Arms & ammunition recovered. Identities & #affiliations are being ascertained. @JmuKmrPolice," the Kashmri Police Zone tweeted.

Sources told UNI on a tip off about the presence of two to three militants, troops of Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police, CRPF and Rashtriya Rifles (RR) launched a joint CASO at village Awneer in Shopian in the wee hours of Tuesday.

However, after sealing all exit points, when security forces launched house to house searches in the area, militants hiding there opened indiscriminate firing with automatic weapons, they said adding the fire was retaliated ensuing in an encounter.

Two militants were killed in the encounter so far, they said adding the operation was still going on when the reports last came in.

Additional security forces have been deployed in the areas adjacent to Awneera to prevent demonstration.

Meanwhile, mobile internet service has been suspended in Shopian as a precautionary measure to prevent rumours.
