Srinagar/UNI: Over six activists of Jammu and Kashmir Civil Society Forum (JKSCF) were taken into preventive custody when they were protesting against the new land law in Srinagar.

Activists of the Forum assembled at Press Enclave near here this afternoon raising slogans against the new land law announced by the Centre recently.

Holding placards which reads” demographic change unacceptable”, “ Amendment in state subject law unacceptable” and “ Curbs on freedom of speech unacceptable”, the demonstrators alleged that the new land law was introduced to change the Muslim character of Jammu and Kashmir. It will not be accepted, they were raising the slogans.

However, when the demonstrators left the press enclave and hit the main road to enter nearby Partap Park, police personnel deployed in the area immediately swung into action.

Police later took into custody over six activists and lodged them in police station Kothibagh.

New land law evoked sharp reaction from almost all political parties, including Peoples Alliance for Gupkar Declaration, alleging that J&K was on sale for outsiders.
