Jammu and Kashmir: Militant associate arrested in Shopian

Srinagar: Security forces arrested a militant associate of Lashkar-e-Taiba in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.

The arrested militant associate Bilal Ahmed Dar of Maldera Shopian was arrested on Tuesday by a joint team of forces at a checkpoint.

“A surprise joint checkpoint was laid by Shopian Police, (Army’s) 44 RR (Rashtriya Rifles) and 178 CRPF BN at Dragad Zainpora and during frisking of pedestrian and search of vehicles, a suspicious white coloured TATA mobile which was on way towards Chitragam from Sugan was intercepted. On noticing the check point, the driver of the suspicious vehicle tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended by the alert parties,” a police statement said.

Police said during the search of the vehicle, one AK rifle along with one magazine and live ammunition of AK were recovered.

“The driver of the vehicle Bilal Ahmed Dar was apprehended,” police said.

They said a case under relevant section has been registered and investigation has been taken up.
