Jammu and Kashmir: Encounter ensues between terrorists and security forces in Kulgam

Srinagar, May 29 (UNI) An encounter ensued between militants and security forces during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in south Kashmir district of Kulgam on Wednesday, a police spokesman said.

Meanwhile, internet mobile service has been suspended as a precautionary measure in Kulgam since early morning to prevent the rumors.

The spokesperson said on a tip off about the presence of militants, Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police, Rashitriya Rifles (RR) and CRPF launched a joint search operation at Tazipora Mohammadpora in Kulgam in the wee hours on Wednesday. However, when the troops were moving towards a particular area in the village, militants hiding there opened indiscriminate firing with automatic weapons.

"Security forces retaliated, ensuing in an encounter," they said, adding that the operation was going on when the last reports came in. Two to three militants are holed up in the area, they informed.

A police spokesman said that details about the encounter are awaited.
