Jammu and Kashmir: Encounter ensues between militants, security forces

Srinagar/UNI: An encounter ensued between militants and security forces during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in south Kashmir district of Kulgam early on Saturday, official sources said.

They further said that troops of Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and CRPF launched a joint search operation at Wanpora in Kulgam district following a tip of about the presence of militants.

All the exit points were sealed, they stated adding that when the security forces were moving towards a particular area in the village, militants hiding there opened fire with automatic weapons.

Security forces also retaliated ensuing in an encounter and two to three militants were reportedly trapped there, they further stated.

Meanwhile, additional security forces have been rushed from nearby camps to prevent any demonstration in the adjacent areas.
