Jammu and Kashmir: Encounter breaks out between militants, security forces in Shopian

Srinagar/UNI: An encounter ensued between militants and security forces in south Kashmir district of Shopian on Tuesday.

Official sources said that following specific information about presence of militants, a joint Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) was launched by Special Operations Group (SOG) of J&K police, Army and CRPF at Melhora in Shopian this evening.

However, when security forces were moving towards a particular area, militants hiding there, fired at them with automatic weapons.

They said the security forces retaliated ensuing in an encounter, adding that additional security forces have been rushed to the area to foil any attempts by militants to escape.

“The encounter was on when the reports last came in,” they added.
