Jaitley congratulates WB BJP after HC allows Amit Shah's Rath Yatra
New Delhi, Dec 20 (IBNS): Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Thursday congratulated the West Bengal unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after the Calcutta High Court allowed the party to proceed with its ‘Save Democracy’ Rath Yatra in the state even as the Mamata Banerjee government denied permission for the same.
In a tweet, Jaitley said: "Congratulations to BJP, West Bengal for the High Court Judgement in their favour."

He questioned the silence of human rights activists on this matter.
"Why are Human Rights activists and opposition parties silent on denial of a right to a political party to organise its' programme in West Bengal," tweeted Jaitley.

The ruling by the Calcutta High Court earlier in the day is seen as a set back to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
The court slammed the reasoning of the Bengal government and said it would be "appropriate to permit the petitioner to hold the rally... to organise the yatras".
"The petitioner will inform the police authorities, superintendent of district where the yatra shall enter, at least 12 hours before entering the concerned district. The commissioner will ensure conducting yatra in peaceful manner," the plea read.
The saffron party had moved the court on Monday after the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government had denied it permission, for the second time, to hold the yatras.
Despite holding a meeting with the party leaders last week, the government had on Saturday said, in a letter to BJP, it would not be able to grant permission to take out the rallies due to law and order concerns.
