Jaishankar calls on Bhutanese PM, discusses bilateral issues
Thimpu, June 7 (UNI): External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, who is on a two-day visit to Bhutan, called on Bhutanese Prime Minister Lotay Tshering on Friday and conveyed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s greetings.
It was "constructive conversation with a close partner", tweeted MEA spokesman Raveesh Kumar.
"High-level exchanges and engagements have further enhanced our bilateral connections," he wrote.
Earlier on his arrival, Dr Jaishankar held talks with his Bhutan counterpart Dr Tandi Dorji and discussed issues of mutual interest.
Both the leaders held talks with emphasis on development partnership and hydro power.
This is Jaishankar’s first visit abroad as the External Affairs Minister and is seen as a reflection on the importance that India attaches to its bilateral relationship with Bhutan.
During the two-day visit, Jaishankar is expected to have audience with Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, the King of Bhutan, as well.
After becoming Prime Minister in 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's first visit was to Bhutan.
