Italian tourist tests positive with Coronavirus in Jaipur

The patient is an Italian tourist in Rajasthan's Jaipur. The report, which confirmed the third positive case, came from Pune's National Institute of Virology in this evening.

On Monday, two patients tested positive with the deadly Coronavirus in India.

One person has been detected with the COVID-19 in New Delhi and the other in Telangana.

Six more people, who came in contact with a patient from Delhi, are now suspected to have the virus.

Their samples have been sent to Pune following an examination in a Lucknow hospital where they have tested positive with the virus.

All six are currently treated at a hospital in Delhi.

At present, three patients are infected with the virus, as per reports.

The first three cases of Coronavirus were reported among students from Kerala who returned from China’s Wuhan, which is the epicentre of the outbreak of the virus.

All three students were later discharged from the hospital after they recovered.

The recent development comes on a day when Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged people not to panic over coronavirus in the country and take small steps to ensure 'self-protection'.

He said he attended an extensive review regarding preparedness on the COVID-19 Novel Coronavirus.

Modi tweeted: "Had an extensive review regarding preparedness on the COVID-19 Novel Coronavirus. Different ministries & states are working together, from screening people arriving in India to providing prompt medical attention."

"There is no need to panic. We need to work together, take small yet important measures to ensure self-protection," he said.

More worryingly, the Italian tourist in Jaipur was part of a group of 23 Italians, who first arrived in Delhi and then travelled to Rajasthan last month.

The rest of the group has left for Agra and are expected to fly out to Italy from Delhi on Tuesday.

Italy is also witnessing a tremendous increase in the spread of the deadly Coronavirus which emerged in China's Wuhan.

The Delhi patient, who tested positive for coronavirus, also returned from Italy recently, said reports.

The private school in Noida where his two children attended has been shut now following his diagnosis. 

The school authority has cancelled internal exams and its premises are being sanitised by the local health authorities.

According to reports, he was not screened at the airport when he returned from Austria.

The Air India crew who were there with him have been quarantined as a precautionary measure.

The Hyderabad techie who tested positive with the virus had flown on an IndiGo flight 6E 96 (Dubai-Bangalore) on Feb 20.

The crew members of the flight have been placed under observation and isolated.

Meanwhile, the Indian government on Tuesday issued travel advisory where it suspended all regular visas or e-visas granted on or before Mar 3 to nationals of Italy, Iran, South Korea, Japan who have not yet entered India.

Diplomats, officials of UN and other International bodies, OCI cardholders and Aircrew from above countries are exempted from such restriction on entry. However, their medical screening is compulsory, the government said.

The Union Health Ministry has also advised Indian citizens not to travel to China, Iran, South Korea and Italy.
