Indian Armed Forces reach Seychelles for massive ‘LAMITIYE-2026’ War Games

“LAMITIYE”, which means “Friendship” in the Creole language, is a biennial training exercise conducted in Seychelles since 2001.

This year’s edition marks a significant milestone as it features the participation of all three services of the Indian Armed Forces.

The Indian contingent includes personnel from the Assam Regiment, along with participation from the Indian Navy and the Indian Air Force.

Naval ship INS Trikand and a C-130 aircraft are also part of the exercise.

The joint exercise aims to enhance synergy between the two sides in sub-conventional operations in a semi-urban environment, while strengthening cooperation and interoperability during peacekeeping operations.

According to a government statement, the exercise will also help deepen bilateral military relations, while facilitating the exchange of skills, operational experiences and best practices between the two forces.

“Both sides will jointly train, plan and execute a series of tactical drills for neutralisation of likely threats that may be encountered in a semi-urban environment, while also showcasing and utilising new-generation equipment and technology,” the statement said.

The 12-day exercise will feature field training exercises, combat discussions, case studies, lectures and demonstrations, culminating in a two-day validation exercise.

The joint drills are expected to significantly strengthen mutual understanding, coordination and jointness between the troops of India and Seychelles.
