Bengaluru tops Karnataka voter roll concerns, nearly half of electors flagged for verification
Bengaluru has emerged as the biggest flashpoint in Karnataka's ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, with nearly half of the city's voters being flagged under the ASDDO (Absent, Shifted, Duplicate, Dead and Others) category during the ongoing house-to-house verification exercise.
Fresh data released by the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) shows that Bengaluru's urban districts account for the highest concentration of flagged electors in the state, significantly exceeding Karnataka's overall average.
Nearly half of Bengaluru's voters flagged
According to the data, Bengaluru Urban district has 40.21 lakh electors, of whom only 55.39 per cent have had their enumeration forms successfully digitised.
The remaining 44.61 per cent (17.93 lakh voters) have been placed under the ASDDO or uncollected category.
The numbers are even more striking across Bengaluru's three BBMP zones.
- BBMP South recorded the highest proportion in Karnataka, with 51.18 per cent (10.97 lakh voters) flagged.
- BBMP Central reported 47.85 per cent (9.04 lakh voters) under the category.
- BBMP North followed closely with 46.95 per cent (10.95 lakh voters).
Overall, more than 48.9 lakh electors across Bengaluru's urban areas have been flagged during the exercise, compared to the statewide average of 19.93 per cent.
No automatic deletion of voter names
Election officials clarified that being marked under the ASDDO category does not mean a voter's name will be deleted from the electoral roll.
The Election Commission said electors classified as Absent, Shifted, Duplicate, Dead or Others will have an opportunity to seek corrections or restoration of their records.
Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) have been authorised to reverse any incorrect ASDDO marking until August 8, when the house-to-house enumeration and digitisation exercise concludes.
Over one crore electors flagged statewide
Across Karnataka, the SIR exercise covers 5.54 crore electors.
The Election Commission said 100 per cent of enumeration forms have been printed and distributed to BLOs, while 99.99 per cent have already been digitised or categorised.
Statewide, 1.1 crore electors (19.93 per cent) have been marked under the ASDDO/uncollected category.
Among them:
- 66.43 lakh are listed as permanently shifted
- 16.32 lakh as deceased
- 16.12 lakh as absent or untraceable
- 6.93 lakh as already enrolled elsewhere
- 4.67 lakh under other categories
EC gears up for fresh enrolments
To facilitate new voter registrations in Bengaluru, the Election Commission has supplied 10 lakh copies of Form 6 to Electoral Registration Officers across BBMP and the Greater Bengaluru Area.
Between June 16 and August 5, the Commission received 12.32 lakh applications under Forms 6, 6A, 7 and 8 for the inclusion, deletion and correction of electoral records as part of the ongoing revision exercise.
