India aiming to export 3 mn tonnes of wheat to Egypt in 2022-23

| @indiablooms | Apr 16, 2022, at 08:57 pm

Egypt has agreed to source wheat from India, media reports said, a step that will further enhance the country's export prospect.

Egyptian authorities have put India as one of the origins for this strategic commodity. Meanwhile, officials from agriculture quarantine and pest risk analysis of Egypt visited various processing units, port facilities and farms in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Punjab, reports ANI.

The Commerce Ministry in a statement said the Egyptian delegation’s visit to India follows several trade talks and meetings with the various wheat importing countries, which are exploring possibilities of sourcing grain from alternate sources as supplies have been disrupted because of the Russia and Ukraine conflict, the news agency reported.

Union Minister Piyush Goyal tweeted: "Egypt has turned to India for its supply of wheat trusting us for quick & quality delivery."

He said: "Modi Govt. is leading the response to a surging global demand as our farmers give us an upper hand with a bumper harvest."
