IED detected, defused in north Kashmir

Srinagar/UNI: Alert security forces on Monday averted a major tragedy when they detected and defused a powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted on Sopore-Kupwara road in north Kashmir, official sources said.

A joint patrol of security forces detected some suspicious object at Arampora Drgumulla on Sopore-Kupwara road this morning.

However, traffic from both sides on the busy road was suspended and the area was cordoned off, they said adding people in the area were asked to leave or safe place.

They said Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) was summoned and the IED was defused without causing any damage.

Had it not been detected and defused in time, it would have caused much damage to life and property as the road remained busy throughout the day.
