New Delhi, Sept 14 (UNI): Indian Air Force (IAF) will felicitate and award Rs 5 lakh to all those locals who helped in locating missing transport aircraft AN-32 in June, on September 17 in Arunachal Pradesh.

Eastern Air Command Air Marshal RD Mathur will grace the occasion.

“The locals are those people who were directly or indirectly involved in the search ops, which led to locating of missing AN-32 in June, 2019,” a defence source said.

On June 3, the AN-32 went off radar after taking off from Jorhat air base in Assam for Menchuka air field in Arunachal Pradesh. It took over two weeks to retrieve the mortal remains due to bad weather and high forestation.

The jet was carrying 13 passengers to a remote base in Arunachal Pradesh when it went missing around 12:25 pm, half an hour after it's take off.

The wreckage of the missing AN-32 was spotted north of Lipo in Arunachal Pradesh.
