Hyderabad/IBNS: The Telangana Police Thursday warned action against inflammatory speeches and comments that can cause communal discord and incite violence during campaign for Hyderabad civic body election, media reports said.

The police issued the warnings after BJP leaders allegedly made controversial comments while campaigning for the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) polls on December 1.

In a statement, Director General of Police Mahender Reddy said Hyderabad Police has specific information that some elements are trying to incite communal trouble. Police will be monitoring political speeches and if speeches are found to be inflammatory in nature, action will be taken as per law, he added.

BJP's Tejasvi Surya, the Bangalore South MP,  had allegedly made comments that triggered controversy as he took on the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) and the AIMIM of Asaduddin Owaisi.

Tejaswi Surya was also charged for entering Osmania University without permission, Telangana Police said, adding that the University Registrar had lodged a complaint of trespass against the politician.

Reddy said police from all over Telangana will be deployed for the civic polls to ensure free and fair polls.  He also urged people to alert the police if they came across provocative speeches, posts or comments on social media. He also warned against forwarding provocative messages.
