How far they will go simply to win an election: Imran Khan on BJP stand on Article 370

Islamabad, Apr 9 (IBNS): Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan today attacked India's ruling BJP for mentioning in its election manifesto that it intends to scrap Article 370 and 35A of the Constitution that grant special status to Jammu and Kashmir.

"When ldrs in Israel & India show a moral bankruptcy in their readiness to annex occupied West Bank & IOK in defiance of int law, UNSC resolutions & their own Constitution for votes, don't their ppl feel a sense of outrage & wonder how far they will go simply to win an election?" he tweeted this morning.

The BJP election manifesto has already received criticism from Jammu and Kashmir political parties.

PDP president Mahbooba Mufti said: "My warning to the BJP is to stop playing with fire. Jammu and Kashmir is already sitting on a powder keg. If the BJP does not stop making such statements and give up such intentions (about Article 370), it will not only burn the state but the entire region."

National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah said the abrogation of Article 370 would pave the way for the state to gain "freedom". He said: "If you do that (repeal Article 370), the accession will also not stand. I think this is the wish of Almighty, we will get freedom from them."

Article 35A defines the term "permanent resident" and gives special rights and privileges to the people of Jammu and Kashmir and bars outsiders from acquiring immovable property there. Article 370, an extension of Article 35A, allows the state its own constitution, flag and the right to handle its own laws except on matters that impact national security.
