Hope no problem in Cauvery river water sharing in Tamil Nadu occurs this year: Yediyurappa
Mysuru: Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa on Saturday expressed hopes that there would be no difficulties in sharing Cauvery water with Tamil Nadu this year, thanks to bountiful rain in the State.
Speaking to media persons after offering 'Bagena' to Kabini Reservoir on the occasion of water level reaching maximum capacity of 2284 feet, he said, “By God’s grace, we are getting good rain. I think there will be no problem with Tamil Nadu in sharing of water this year and enough water has been released since August this year.
He said that the four major dams in the Cauvery basin, including the Krishnaraja Sagar, have reached their full reservoir level after eight years, bringing much-needed delight to farmers. The State has been facing severe flood situation and 1.25 lakh houses fully collapsed and this should be rebuild. The Central team already had visited the affected areas and expecting good news from the Centre for release of funds.
Yediyurappa said that the state government has already paid compensation to victims in the flood and relief works and more rehabilitation works are in progress at various places in as many as 22 flood affected Districts.
Replying to a question on Mekedatu drinking water project, he said the government will consider the issue and hold talks with the Union government.
Yediyurappa said that the State government will spend Rs 20 crore to construct Bidarahalli bridge near Kabini Dam and the road leading to the Dam.
