Heavy rains lash Mumbai and surroundings; Water-logging, traffic snarls reported from low lying areas
Mumbai/IBNS: Heavy rains lashed Mumbai on Saturday evening, leading to water logging and traffic snarls in several low-lying areas of the city.
Areas like Hindmata, Dharavi Cross Road, Dadar TT, Shakkar Panchayat Wadala and Below Chembur Bridge were water-logged, said the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), adding that measures are being taken to drain the rainwater from these areas, reported NDTV.
Earlier, Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) had predicted "extremely heavy rainfall" at many places in Palghar, Mumbai, Thane and Raigad districtsts and issued a red alert for Mumbai, Raigad and Ratnagiri in Maharashtra, the report added.
The suburbs of Mumbai, including Thane, received more than 100 mm rainfall since Saturday morning, said IMD.
The red alert will not be applicable for Sunday, the weatherman informed.
On Friday, the first heavy showers of this Monsoon hit South Mumbai where Colaba recorded 22 cm out of which the 15 cm was recorded in the last three hours of the spell, said reports.
