Haryana govt puts award for Rohtak sisters on hold, orders probe
Rohtak, Dec 4 (IBNS): Amid doubts, the Haryana government has decided to put a hold on its recommendation of bravery awards to the two Rohtak sisters on Republic Day for fighting against alleged ever-teasers inside a crowded bus.
According to reports, doubts were raised over the version of events that were narrated by the girls.
The state government has also reinstated the bus conductor and the driver who were suspended following the incident.
A probe in the case is currently underway.
Earlier the two sisters from Rohtak in Haryana were lauded for putting up a brave fight with their molesters inside a crowded bus recently as the video of the action caught on a mobile camera went viral.
Interestingly the men were those waiting to join Indian Army but reports then said that might not happen after the incident came to the fore.
According to the mobile video of the incident, the girls- 22-year-old Arati and 19-year-old Pooja- were in a bus going to college when the men started misbehaving with them. At one point the girls fought back even as other passengers watched.
The bravery of the "Rohtak sisters" also was brought the note of the state government and reports said they would be felicitated by Chief Minister ML Khattar on Republic Day.
The girls had said the men threw chits with their mobile numbers and then when confronted abused them and touched them.
The sisters had decided to then fight back as they were seen thrashing the men.
Arati had said the other commuters in the bus advised them to let them go since they can even throw acid on the girls or rape and kill them. But the sisters had decided to take on the men.
The girls had alleged that the family of the boys approached the girls' families to withdraw the cases or change the statements since cases against them would jeopardize their career.
