New Delhi/IBNS: The Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has bagged the largest ever order for indigenous military hardware worth Rs. 65,000 crore placed by the Modi government, media reports said.

The tender has been issued to HAL by the Defence Ministry for Made-in-India 97 LCA Mark M1 fighter jets.

The new fighters will help to replace the old MiG fleet of the Indian Air Force (IAF).

The HAL has reportedly been given three months time to respond to the tender.

In November last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a sortie on indigenous aircraft Tejas in Karnataka's state capital Bengaluru on Saturday.

He was on the way to the defence public sector undertaking Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) in the city.

Prime Minister Modi also gave a push to revive HAL, which has bagged some major tenders since then.
