Ujjain/IBNS: The brother of Sonam Raghuvanshi, who is accused of killing her husband Raja Raghuvanshi during honeymoon in Meghalaya, attended the victim's 'pind daan' in Ujjain on Friday, media reports said.

Govind said he had come for the 'pind daan' with Raja's family and the pundit (priest) had let him perform the ritual.

"I came with Raja-ji's family. Pundit-ji told me that I could do pind-daan so I did it. Whatever has happened is very wrong. If my sister is proved guilty, she should be punished otherwise a wrong message will be sent," Govind told ANI.

Speaking of Sonam's extra-marital affair with Raj Kushwaha, who is one of the involved in the murder case, said he would have let his sister run with her lover had he knowledge of it.

"Had I known, I would have gotten them married or I would have let her run away with Raj Kushwaha," said Govind as quoted by Hindustan Times.

Sonam and her boyfriend Raj Kushwaha planned to kill Raja in the jungles of the northeastern state, the probe officials said.

Sonam and Raja, who got married on May 11, visited Meghalaya on 20th of the same month. They went missing on May 23.

Sonam had hired killers to murder Raja. Four accused in the case-  Anand Kurmi, Akash Rajput, Vishal Singh Chauhan and Raj- have been arrested.

Sonam was arrested in Uttar Pradesh's Ghazipur on Monday after she surrendered at a police station.

A week after the newly-wed couple went missing, Raja's body was recovered from a gorge.

According to Meghalaya cops, Sonam was in an extramarital affair and wanted to get rid of Raja. Hence, she plotted the murder.

She planned the murder in connivance with her boyfriend, Raj, and surrendered under pressure on June 8, according to the police. Both were later arrested.
