Govt, private school fee should be waived in public interest: BSP chief Mayawati
Lucknow/UNI: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Saturday demanded central and state governments to cut their expenditure in the larger public interest and waive school fees for children in government and private schools.
She said that people are struggling to pay school fees due to the massive economic recession that has hit the country leading to unprecedented unemployment caused by corona induced lockdown.
"People are facing untold miseries and hardship and being forced to take to the street to demonstrate against the government's inaction," he said.
She accused the state and central government of being insensitive towards the people as they are being hit by police batons while demanding for their legitimate rights, which is an extremely sad situation.
The BSP honcho said, "During such an 'Act of God', the role of the government as a welfare state, as per constitutional intention, especially, increases considerably. The central and state governments should cut their royal expenditure to reimburse the government and private school fees to waive the school fees should be waived in the wider public interest."
