Goa TMC demands probe into Smriti Irani’s family restaurant

Panaji: The Trinamool Congress (TMC) Saturday demanded a probe into alleged claims over an illegally issued license to Union Minister Smriti Irani's 18-year-old daughter for running a restaurant in Goa.

Questioning the process of procuring the license, Goa TMC leader Trajano D’Mello said, "How could the liquor license be provided before the restaurant got its food license."

Accusing the BJP government of administrative failure he said, "When it comes to the ministers of the BJP, all the due process of the law ceases to exist.’"

"In fact, the BJP misuses the judicial system to suppress justice," he alleged.

Slamming the opposition parties for not raising the issue in the assembly during the current session, D’Mello said, "The opposition are on their knees before the government. They seem to be playing to the gallery, publicity and not for the issues plaguing Goa."

Demanding a probe into the dubious process used to procure the license, D’Mello said, "The government must hold a clean and open enquiry into the matter."

Goa TMC leader Samil Volvaiker said, "Goan entrepreneurs find it difficult to procure a single license whereas VIPs like Shania connected with the BJP acquire it without the required documents."

He also slammed the BJP government for its alleged indifference towards the Old Goa illegal construction issue. "The illegal construction is in total violation of CRZ rules and the norms set by the ASI.

"Despite the issue being transferred to the Director of Panchayat, they haven't provided a specific deadline to solve the issue."
