Give Narendra Modi a 'chance' to bring desired development in Delhi: Amit Shah
New Delhi/UNI: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday urged voters in the national capital to give Prime Minister Narendra Modi 'a chance' to provide good governance to them.
"Narendra Modiji ne desh badla hae, ab woh Delhi Badlengey. Unhey aap ek mauka dijiye (PM Modi has changed the country, now he will change Delhi, please give him a chance)," Home Minister Amit Shah told an election meeting at Babarpur.
"Someone who bluffs cannot bring about the desired changes and development in Delhi," said Mr Shah.
He thanked the voters of national capital for reposing faith in the saffron party and giving Mr Modi a 'chance' in two subsequent Lok Sabha polls 2014 and 2019 and said the result of this is that the country is making rapid strides on various fronts.
BJP swept the Lok Sabha polls in 2014 and 2019 winning all seven seats. However, in 2015, the saffron outfit had suffered a major electoral debacle when it could win only three seats in the 70-member House and the remaining 67 went to Kejriwal-led AAP.
Seeking votes in the name of Prime Minister Modi is a significant political strategy for the Lotus party.
The BJP has this year not named its chief ministerial candidate. In 2015, the move to name retired police officer and social activist Kiran Bedi had backfired.
In his speech, Shah especially mentioned about Modi government's yeoman works in providing electricity, toilet and cooking gas to the poor across the country.
"Similarly, the Ayushman Bharat scheme is helping poor in the health sector....," said Mr Shah, who recently relinquished the post of BJP national president.
"But the Kejriwal government did not allow implement Ayushman scheme in Delhi. He fears if poor people get benefited, then they will vote for Modiji," the Home Minister said.
Meanwhile, new BJP president J P Nadda also addressed an election meeting in Patel Nagar.
Nadda highlighted the Modi government's achievements and made special mention of the centre's decision to do away with Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir.
He also slammed the incumbent Chief Minister and said - "I keep telling this time and again, do not cast vote thinking what will the leader do in future, one should always vote considering a leader's past and credibility".
The BJP is making a determined effort to wrest power in the city. Last BJP government in Delhi was in November 1998.
