Fresh rains halt J&K flood relief operations
Srinagar, Sept 14 (IBNS): The ongoing relief and rescue operations in Jammu and Kashmir received a setback on Sunday after fresh rains hit the state.
All air operations were suspended on Sunday owing to the bad weather.
However, 1.5 lakh people are still stranded awaiting rescue while over 200 have been killed in the worst floods in the state.
After a few clear days, rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning lashed Srinagar and other parts of the Valley on Sunday.
The Valley started receiving rainfall from 8.30 am on Sunday.
While the flood water was receding after clear skies for the last few days, the river Jhelum is rising once again after fresh rains.
Over 1,42,000 persons have been rescued by the armed forces and National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) from different parts of Jammu and Kashmir in the ongoing rescue and relief operations in the state, that witnessed the worst flood condition in six decades.
The state is now reeling under the fear and worries over the outbreak of any water-borne diseases.
Meanwhile, the Army and the Border Roads Organisation are working to repair and re-open the Jammu-Srinagar highway.
The forces are also working to restore the power and water supply in the flood-hit state.
