Former CJI Ranjan Gogoi takes oath as Rajya Sabha MP

New Delhi/IBNS: Four months after retiring, former Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi on Thursday took oath as the Rajya Sabha MP here.

Gogoi was nominated as the Rajya Sabha MP by President Ram Nath Kovind.

"...the President is pleased to nominate Shri Ranjan Gogoi to the Council of States to fill the vacancy caused due to the retirement of one of the nominated member," a Gazette notification from the Ministry of Home Affairs stated.

A few members of the judiciary have made it so far to the arena of the legislature.

Justice Gogoi had retired as the CJI in November last year.

His term as the Chief Justice of India lasted for around 13 months.
