Patna, Nov 20 (IBNS) : Former Bihar minister Manju Verma surrendered on Tuesday before a  court in connection with an Arms Act case, that came to the fore  that surfaced in course of a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the Muzaffarpur shelter home scandal.

Verma is a key accused in the shelter home case, being probed by CBI. She had been absconding for more than two months

Verma fainted when she entered the court of the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Prabhat Trivedi of Begusarai court. Later, she was brought to her senses.

The Begusarai court on Novemeber 16 had declared Verma an "absconder" and the Chief Judicial Magistrate of Majaul passed an order to attach her properties, invoking Sections 82 and 83 of Code of Criminal Procedure.

The Bihar Police, on Sunday, concluded the two-day operation of attaching Verma's properties.

On November 12, the Supreme Court had pulled up the Bihar Police for failing to arrest Verma and directed the DGP to appear before it in person on November 27 if she was not nabbed by then.

Verma had stepped down as the minister for social welfare in August, following reports that her husband, Chandrashekhar Verma, had close links with Brajesh Thakur, the prime accused in the Muzaffarpur shelter home scandal. Over 30 girls were allegedly raped at the shelter home.
