Kolkata/UNI/IBNS: Plumes of smoke are billowing from all over a multi-storey building at Pollock Street near Poddar Court in downtown city this evening following a major fire.

Ten fire tenders have been pressed into service to douse the blaze.

The building houses several branches of Banks and offices.

The cause of the fire and extent of damage are yet to be ascertained.

A portion of Brabourne Road has been closed following the incident.

West Bengal Urban Development Minister Firhad Hakim reached the spot as firefighters tried to put off the flames.

Inspected the fire at Poddar Court just now. Thanks to the timely action of the brave men from our Fire Department the situation is now under control.
