Family members of Covid-19 deceased can now pay last respect in West Bengal

Kolkata/IBNS: The West Bengal government has amended its Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to allow family members of a Covid-19 deceased to pay their last respect.

As per the new directive, in case of the death of a Covid patient, the hospital authority must inform the deceased's family members within an hour of death.

The family members, who will be provided masks and gloves by the concerned hospital, can pay their respect for 30 minutes.

A body cover with a transparent face area should be used for the deceased by the hospital, the new directive stated.

West Bengal on Saturday reported 17 deaths taking the toll to 311.

As per the state's health bulletin, 435 people were infected with the pandemic virus in 24 hours on Saturday as West Bengal's overall tally touched 7,738.
