Ex- Uttar Pradesh CM Mayawati terms setting up of Ambedkar memorial 'drama', UP government hits back

Lucknow/UNI: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Tuesday slammed the Uttar Pradesh government over laying of foundation stone for Dr Ambedkar Memorial and Cultural Centre in Lucknow, saying it is a 'drama' ahead of the 2022 assembly polls.

In series of tweets, Mayawati alleged ''the state government neglected Dr Ambedkar and his followers.''

''Now, as assembly elections are nearing, foundation stone laying for a memorial in the name of Babasaheb, if this is not drama, then what is it?," the former chief minister questioned.

She alleged that lakhs of reserved government posts are still lying vacant' while sites and parks constructed in the name of dalit icons during BSP regime were totally neglected in BJP tenure.

The BSP chief said that BJP-SP-Congress are ''one and the same and are ''anti-dalit''.

Hitting back at Mayawati for her remarks, UP Labour Minister Swami Prasad Maurya, once a close confidant of the BSP chief, said," Mayawati ji should be happy on the construction of Babasaheb's memorial."

Maurya claimed that the memorial is not being constructed due to elections but in the honour of Dr Ambedkar.
