Srinagar, June 26 (UNI): An encounter ensued on Wednesday between militants and security forces during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in Tral area of south Kashmir district of Pulwama, a police spokesman said.

He said troops of Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and CRPF launched a joint search operation at Branpatheri, Tral, in Pulwama following a tip off about the presence of militants.

However, when the security forces were moving towards a particular area militants hiding there opened fire, he said adding the fire was returned ensuing in an encounter.

He said the operation was going on when the reports last came in.

Meanwhile, internet service in the area has been suspended, official sources said adding additional security forces and state police personnel have been deployed in the nearby areas to prevent any demonstration.
